About Meaning Beyond the Job
On 2018-05-17, Daniel Comp published "360MEN MUGSHOTS and COFFEE - Merlin Berg Torpedoman" on YouTube. GB places it in Mission 4, Meaning Beyond the Job, one of five missions in the whole-library reading What 13 Years of Video Says to SI.
What the video shows
In Glendale, Arizona, fellow sailor Merlin Berg recalls Navy life from 1962, growing up on Run Silent Run Deep, and earning a master's degree after struggling in high school. "I learned in the Navy about discipline." It is a veteran's testimony that service shaped a meaning that outlasted the uniform.
I learned in the Navy about discipline.
The quoted words are Merlin Berg's.
