"SCOTOMAVILLE 01.14 - Triangulation REFLECTION" and What It Teaches Asxer Owners About Blind Spots
and What It Teaches Asxer Owners About Blind Spots
On 2022-09-16, Daniel Comp published "SCOTOMAVILLE 01.14 - Triangulation REFLECTION" on YouTube. GB places it in Mission 2, Scotomas: Seeing What You Haven't Seen, one of five missions in the whole-library reading What 13 Years of Video Says to SI.
What the video shows
In September 2022, Daniel revisits triangulation and says "I don't want machine learning to win over you, to narrow your world view, to constrict what your possible outcomes are." He notes how much of his old fear came from other people's childhood misunderstandings. Weeks before ChatGPT, the scotoma lesson was aimed squarely at machines.
I don't want machine learning to win over you, to narrow your world view, to constrict what your possible outcomes are.
What I really want for you is the freedom of self-mitigation through awareness, understanding, and the discipline.
From the YouTube description: To stand firm in the midst of shifting opinions, culture, mandates, and change, this mental discipline can make a huge difference. (full description on YouTube)
The asxer angle
An asxer gives an owner the same practice in a new form. Because it answers from what the owner has actually written and recorded, the owner can ask it what they have said before and notice what they keep missing. Re-watching yourself is still the method; the asxer just makes the archive easy to search.
In the books: Trilogy 01.14.
